It’s a blood thing

Yesterday while watching TV with my father remarking on the news of the ban on bullfighting in Catalunya.

“I think is a very hard decision prohibiting a millenary tradition” I commented.

“Why? This is a slaughter of animals. “

“Yes, but  it is also a tradition.” Claimed.

I agree to all the offices with him about the cruelty that is practiced. But must admit that it is still rather an ancient tradition and deserves respect.

“The problem is that the traditions haven’t evolved” my father commented after a while.

He’s right. There should be a middle ground, a way to preserve the traditions and not practice cruelty to animals.

In the state of Santa Catarina (Brazil) is common during Lent, the “celebraion” of the Farra do Boi, which is nothing more than a bullfight in third world. But also a tradition.

There are at least 5 years listening to stories about attempted coercion  and practice. They more or less five years also hearing reports of casualties after the bull destroyed cars and shops in small towns. Not forget  to mention the crimes committed by practitioners when they discover who is the complainant.

The Farra do Boi is prohibited by law.

Today digging the numerous information sources distributed over the Internet, I came across a headline on several websites: “Military rescue puppy used to the ball”

I resisted for at least four times, but I ended up yielding to curiosity and read the “news”.

Shortly afterwards I wondered: Does the cruelty lays in our blood?
